drydocks, in the classic sense, are used for repairs and maintenance. It's likely that the ships landed close by and were then transported by more conventional means, such as a large treaded vehicle, to be stored in drydock. Another way would just to be careful in the landing, and then to utilize the same thrust engines that were used in the final scenes of Halo Reach for when the Pillar was taking off.
